warzone bot lobby Objective 7: Show Compassion - The Joyless Machine ("Gary")
This riddle features "Gary", an abandoned robot (or mechanical companion), located in the spawn zone. It is your task to make this machine happy by giving it gifts. How can we do this? By feeding it zombie drops. You need to have the zombies drop Holiday Presents, and Gary collect them.
This is the bo7 accounts procedure to follow:
If you haven't done so already, equip the Cryofreeze mod to your weapon (or create a weapon using Cryofreeze). Cryofreeze and snowballs are used to kill zombies, which will result in them dropping gift boxes.
Find Gary. He should be a robot that is stationary somewhere in spawn. It looks a little like an animatronic. He might not react when you first approach him until you start to give presents.
Cryofreeze can be used to kill zombies in the vicinity of Gary. If you kill a zombie with a Cryofreeze effect shot, a red or green present may fall to the ground. Gary must be led to the presents.
Gary will "consume", or grab, any present that is nearby. This makes him happier every time.
You must feed Gary enough gifts until he's satisfied. Then the challenge is complete. The number of gifts required is unknown (possibly 5-10). It is difficult to get the gifts to fall and survive a zombie attack.
It's a lot of work to do this step alone. By now, you're probably around round 30, with a lot of zombies spawning. Gary will wander around a lot, so keep him in the loop as you train the horde. Use a Cryofreeze to chip away the train. Cryokills only count as presents. So make sure the killer blow is the freeze effect, or a bullet that's frozen. Snowballs are also available on the map. (Some winter events include throwable snowballs which act as frost grenades). Snowball kills count as present drops. Use them for an easy, slow kill if you can. As soon as a gift drops, loop around it to allow Gary to roll over it. It can be frustrating to get him to pick up the gift because he is not fast and moves around randomly. Drop gifts close to his locati0n. If he wanders off, you can lead a zombie train towards him, kill a zombie nearby and hope that the present will spawn at his feet.
Co-Op is much more fun with friends. One player can kite the final zombie in a round or a small group, while another player concentrates on Cryofreezing one zombie at a time. Alternately, you can run trains while taking turns dropping presents. Cryofreeze weapons are more plentiful with more players, allowing for faster farming of presents. Be careful, too many zombies could overwhelm Gary's zone. You might want to keep only a few zombies alive as you work on the gifts. Make a crawler, or keep a zombie that is slow. Then repeatedly weaken it and freeze-kill as it respawns the next round.
Troubleshooting: At first, you may be confused about what to do. The operative was probably: "What should I do, Gary?" Do I need to give him anything? The trick was discovered: "We have to put Cryofreeze in our gun, and Gary will pick up the presents that zombies leave... Zombies are going to drop presents. Bada bing, bada boom. Gary picks them up, and he is happy." If nothing happens, check that you are using Cryo Mod and that you are killing near Gary. If you don't see any presents, try killing more zombies. It's RNG based. If Gary doesn't pick them up, you can try to lead him over the box directly or remove debris. Keep an eye on Gary if you see him wandering away from his spawn.
When Gary is done with holiday cheer, complete this goal. You might get something like "Even those who are dead feel joy", or positive feedback about your compassion. Gary's task is now complete, and yours too, in terms of the main challenges. The Listkeeper Challenge has been completed. Now, the only thing remaining is the final boss battle.
You may be wondering if this unlocks the camo reward. This is likely a part of a chain that leads to the final Infestation prize rather than just a camo. Gary's mission is a gateway to the boss. The compassion you displayed will be rewarded.
